She stood on the observation deck of what had once been a bustling financial district, now a jagged testament to Julliana’s fury. Twisted steel skeletons clawed at a bruised sky, and hollowed-out husks of buildings stood like tombstones. Below, tiny figures moved with a slow, deliberate rhythm, clearing debris, their faces etched with a weariness that went beyond mere physical exhaustion. They were the survivors, the ones who had been spared the direct blast of Black Death’s madness, but who now carried its shadow in their eyes.
Agent Thorne, his usual crisp uniform rumpled and bearing the faint smudge of something that looked suspiciously like soot, joined her. He didn't offer platitudes, not anymore.
