The sterile white of the safe house felt like a mockery of the chaos raging outside. Stevie Green, codename America, stared at the shimmering holographic projection that pulsed with an sickly green light. It wasn't a weapon schematic, not a troop movement, but something far more insidious. Julliana Dilige, Black Death, was playing mind games, and Stevie knew, with a cold dread settling in her gut, that this was personal.

The projection flickered, coalescing into the image of a young boy, no older than seven, his face smudged with dirt, his eyes wide with terror. He clutched a tattered teddy bear, his small body trembling. Stevie’s breath hitched. It was Liam. The boy she’d failed to save on that dusty airstrip in the desert, the mission that had become her personal purgatory.

“He’s scared, America,” Julliana’s voice, smooth as poisoned silk, slithered from unseen speakers. “Just like you were, that day. Remember the screams? The helplessness?”
