The parchment, brittle with age, crackled under Arthur’s trembling fingers. The ink, once bold and defiant, had faded to a ghostly whisper, but the words, stark and urgent, leaped from the page. It wasn't a riddle, not a treasure map in the traditional sense. It was a confession, a cry for help, a desperate plea from a soul trapped in the suffocating grip of a past transgression. The familiar script, penned in hurried strokes, spoke of betrayal, of silenced voices, of a secret so profound it had been buried beneath layers of carefully constructed respectability.

“They took everything. My voice, my name, my… future. The rot runs deeper than they know. If this finds its way to honest hands, let the truth be known. The Nightingale’s song was silenced, not by choice, but by design. The gilded cage will crumble if the cracks are seen. Beware the whispers in the halls of power. They listen. They always listen.”

Arthur read the words again, then a third time, the weight of their meaning pressing down on him. The Nightingale. It wasn't a bird, he knew instinctively. It was a person, a life extinguished, a career deliberately sabotaged. And the “gilded cage”… that had to be the establishment, the affluent society that prided itself on its impeccable reputation, a reputation now revealed to be built on a foundation of deceit.
