Chapter 5
The First Overture
Guided by Kael's fragmented knowledge, Elara ventures out. Her journey begins with a small act of weaving, mending a fractured memory or restoring a wilting grove, solidifying her resolve.
The air in Kael’s study hung thick with the scent of aged parchment and dried ink, a comforting aroma that Elara usually found soothing. Today, however, it felt like a shroud, heavy with the weight of unspoken fears. Kael, his brow furrowed, traced a diagram on a brittle scroll with a slender finger. “The texts speak of ‘Resonance Points’,” he murmured, his voice a low rumble. “Nexus points where the world’s harmony is most vibrant, and, consequently, most vulnerable to disruption.”
Elara sat opposite him, her own Resonator resting on her lap, its smooth, cool surface a familiar anchor. The carved pads, each a unique shade and texture, seemed to hum with a latent energy, a silent promise of the power they held. “Vulnerable how?” she asked, her gaze fixed on the intricate patterns Kael was sketching.
“Like a taut string,” Kael explained, his eyes meeting hers, a flicker of concern in their depths. “When the world sings in true harmony, these points amplify its melody. But if a dissonant chord is struck, if something seeks to unravel the weave, these points become the first to fray. The closer they are to the source of the disruption, the more violently they react.”
