The air in the library was thick with the scent of aged paper and forgotten dust, a comforting balm to Elara’s frayed nerves. Sunlight, diffused through stained-glass windows depicting scenes of celestial orchestras, cast shifting mosaics of color across the towering shelves. This was Kael’s sanctuary, a place where the cacophony of the unraveling world seemed to recede, replaced by the hushed reverence of knowledge. Elara clutched her Resonator, its smooth, cool surface a familiar anchor in the swirling uncertainty. The tremors that had begun to plague the city, subtle at first, were now growing more pronounced, a discordant hum vibrating beneath the surface of everyday life.

She found him hunched over a massive tome, his brow furrowed in concentration, a quill scratching furiously across parchment. His dark hair was a disheveled halo around his head, and his spectacles perched precariously on the bridge of his nose. He looked up as she approached, his eyes, sharp and intelligent behind the lenses, widening slightly in surprise.

"Elara," he said, his voice a low, melodious rumble, a stark contrast to the frantic energy that seemed to permeate the rest of the world. "I confess, I did not expect you. Though, I admit, the patterns of the stars have been… unsettled of late. And my studies have yielded some disquieting correlations."
