Elara traced a pattern on the cool, smooth surface of her Resonator, its pads humming softly beneath her fingertips, a comforting counterpoint to the unease settling in her chest. Kael sat across from her, his gaze fixed on a particularly ancient-looking manuscript, his brow furrowed in a way that spoke of more than just academic curiosity.
“You’ve been quiet, Kael,” Elara finally said, her voice soft, like a melody played in a hushed cathedral. “More so than usual.”
He exhaled slowly, the sound a rustle of dry leaves. He didn't look up immediately, his fingers still brushing over the faded script. “Some truths are… difficult to voice, Elara. Especially when they have been buried for so long.”
