The world groaned. It was a sound Elara felt more than heard, a deep, resonant ache that vibrated through the soles of her feet and settled like a cold stone in her chest. The Shadow Weaver’s assault was no longer a creeping dread; it was a full-blown onslaught, and it was targeting the very places that sang with the most vibrant life. The Great Conservatory, once a symphony of a thousand instruments and voices, now stood shrouded in an unnatural stillness, its hallowed halls echoing only with the absence of music. The Sunstone Amphitheatre, where festivals of light and sound had once celebrated the turning of seasons, was now a hollow shell, its stones bleached of their usual warmth, a chilling quiet clinging to its tiered seats.

Elara stood on a windswept cliff overlooking the desolate theatre, the wind whipping strands of her hair across her face. Beside her, Kael, his brow furrowed in concentration, traced the worn symbols on a crumbling scroll. He had been so quiet since they left the Conservatory, his usual pragmatic chatter replaced by a grim silence that mirrored the world’s own suffering.

“It’s as if it’s actively seeking out beauty,” Elara murmured, her voice barely a whisper against the wind. “Trying to extinguish it.”
