Chapter 18
Breaking the Chain
Using Clara's clues and her own intuition, Sarah finds a way to disrupt the ritual. The 'curse' is broken, not through magic, but by exposing the human manipulation and severing the cycle.
Sarah’s fingers, still trembling, traced the faded ink on Great Aunt Clara’s journal. The final entry, cryptic and urgent, spoke of a ‘severing,’ a ‘reclamation,’ and a ‘dawn of true sight.’ It wasn't about appeasing an ancient entity, as the folklore had led her to believe. It was about dismantling a mechanism, a carefully constructed illusion woven through generations. The disappearances, the unsettling similarities to Sarah’s visions, the chilling possibility that this was all a deliberate, monstrous act – it was a puzzle that had finally clicked into place, albeit in the most horrifying way.
"She knew," Sarah whispered, her voice hoarse. "Clara knew it wasn't a curse. She knew it was… this." She gestured vaguely at the journal, at the shadowed corners of the room, at the unspoken dread that now permeated their every breath.
