The air in the sterile interrogation room was thick with a silence that screamed louder than any accusation. Detective Miller watched Phillip, or rather, the empty vessel that had once been Phillip, across the table. The DNA results, stark and irrefutable, lay between them, a scientific epitaph to a life of deception. Phillip’s gaze, when it met Miller’s, was devoid of any flicker of remorse, any hint of the horror he had wrought. It was a predator’s gaze, calculating and chillingly detached.
“You know what this is, Phillip,” Miller stated, his voice low and steady, a stark contrast to the storm raging within the family outside these walls.
Phillip offered a slow, almost imperceptible nod, a faint smirk playing on his lips. It was a smile that spoke of secrets, of power, of a game played and won, even now. There was no confession, no breakdown, no plea for understanding. Just the void.
