The sterile white walls of the interrogation room seemed to absorb every sound, every nuance of emotion. Detective Miller, his face a roadmap of sleepless nights and relentless pursuit, leaned forward, his gaze fixed on the man seated opposite him. David, once the golden boy, the decorated Marine, the pride and joy of his family, now sat exposed. The DNA evidence, a cold, irrefutable truth, had stripped away his carefully constructed facade, leaving behind the chilling emptiness that Miller had suspected all along.

"We have the results, David," Miller stated, his voice low and steady, devoid of accusation but heavy with finality. He slid a folder across the polished table. "The DNA. It matches. You were there. You did this."

David’s eyes, once capable of such disarming charm, now held a disturbing glint, a predator’s detached observation. There was no flicker of surprise, no dawning horror. Instead, a subtle shift, like a predator assessing its prey, rippled across his features. He didn't deny. He didn't confess. He simply tilted his head, a faint, almost imperceptible smile playing on his lips.
