The mirror was a stranger now. Or perhaps, it was I who was the stranger to myself. The reflection staring back was… different. Not the same wide-eyed kid who’d once flinched at his own shadow. This face, mine, was etched with a new kind of knowledge, a deeper understanding of the dark currents that swirled beneath the surface of everything. And my eyes. Gods, my eyes. They held a fire that hadn’t been there before, a smoldering ember that pulsed with an unholy light. Red. They were undeniably, unnervingly red, like twin coals glowing in the perpetual twilight of my mind.

It started subtly, a faint crimson blush at the edges of my irises, easily dismissed as fatigue or a trick of the light. But it grew, deepening with each passing day, until the vibrant blue I remembered was submerged, lost beneath a tide of scarlet. I found myself drawn to the shadows, not with fear, but with a strange, burgeoning affection. The darkness no longer felt empty or menacing. It felt like a shroud, a comforting cloak that wrapped around me, muffling the harsh glare of the world and allowing the true me to breathe.
