Chapter 6

Sonya's Secret Sanctuary: The Bush Brigade

While Drucilla mourns her fallen gnome and plots her next move, Sonya discovers a hidden haven for the hamsters beneath an overgrown lilac bush at the edge of their yard. It’s a cozy, secluded spot, perfect for a tiny army. She begins a secret feeding operation, smuggling out bits of fruit and bread, creating a safe zone for her new friends. This clandestine activity doesn't go unnoticed. Brenda, ever watchful, spots Sonya's furtive trips to the bush, her suspicion growing about what the younger sister is hiding, and how she might exploit it.

A tiny, whiskered face, no bigger than a thimble, poked out from the shadows. Sonya’s face broke into a wide, conspiratorial grin.
