Chapter 18
Operation: Return to Sender: Pet Store Pandemonium
With the hamsters safely (and somewhat surprisingly) contained, the difficult task of returning them to the pet store begins. The sisters, their rivals, and even a few bemused parents work together to carefully scoop the tiny creatures into carriers. Sonya, perched on the edge of the garden gnome moat, giggled. A tiny, fluffy hamster, one she’d affectionately named “Professor Fluffernutter,” was perched on her shoulder, nibbling contentedly at a piece of stray pretzel. “They’re not tyrants, Drucilla,” Sonya said, her voice a soft counterpoint to her sister’s booming pronouncements. “They’re just… enthusiastic. And a little bit hungry.”
