Chapter 4
The Moon's Gentle Call
As the sun dips below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange and purple, the pups remember the raven's words. A sense of anticipation, tinged with a gentle nervousness, settles over them. The clouds are beginning to gather, and the first shy stars are appearing. Luna, feeling a pull she can't explain, nudges her siblings. 'It's time,' she whispers, her voice filled with a mixture of excitement and trepidation. They look towards the eastern sky, where a pale, luminous orb is slowly ascending, its soft light beckoning them, a silent invitation to the magic the raven promised.
The sun, a fading ember, bled across the western sky, staining the clouds with hues of apricot and amethyst. A hush fell over the forest floor, a gentle sigh of day yielding to the velvet cloak of night. The air, still carrying the faint scent of pine and damp earth, grew cooler, and the pups, Luna, Sol, and Stella, felt a stirring within them, a quiet anticipation that hummed like a tiny, unseen bee. The raven’s words, so strange and wondrous, echoed in their minds: *when the clouds turn to dark and stars shine in the sky pay respect to the all knowing moon and sing a lullaby.*
Luna, her fur still damp from the morning dew, nudged Sol with her nose. Her bright eyes, always drawn to the vast expanse above, scanned the darkening heavens. “It’s time,” she whispered, her voice a breath of sound against the deepening twilight. There was a tremor in her tone, a blend of burgeoning excitement and a prickle of apprehension. She felt it, a deep, familiar resonance, a song she hadn't known she knew, stirring in her very bones.
Sol, his boundless energy momentarily subdued, bounced on his paws, his tail giving a tentative wag. He glanced at the sky, then back at Luna, his ears perked. “Time for what, Luna?” he asked, a playful spark already returning to his eyes. He’d loved the fish, of course, but the raven’s pronouncements always felt a little… serious.
