Chapter 17

Sol's Morning Hunt

Sol is the first to stir, his boundless energy already bubbling. He shakes himself awake, his nose twitching, a hopeful glint in his eyes. He nudges Luna and Stella playfully, eager to share his morning enthusiasm. 'Did you see the moon? Did you hear it sing?' he asks, his voice full of excitement. He hops around, pretending to catch fish from the air, still buzzing from the night's magic. He wonders if the raven might appear again today, perhaps with more sky-borne treats, ready for another day of adventure and discovery.

Sol was the first to stir, a whirlwind of fur and boundless energy even before the sun had fully kissed the eastern peaks. He shook himself awake, a magnificent shiver rippling from the tip of his twitching nose to the end of his wagging tail. His eyes, usually bright with mischief, now held a spark of something deeper, something illuminated by the night's ethereal glow. He nudged Luna, his sister, who was still curled in a soft heap of dreams, and then Stella, who stirred with a gentle sigh.

“Did you see the moon?” Sol’s voice, still husky with sleep, was a cascade of excited yips and happy whimpers. “Did you hear it sing?” He bounced on his paws, a tiny, furry spring uncoiling, his gaze already scanning the sky, as if expecting the moon to still be there, a soft pearl against the fading indigo. He hopped around the den entrance, his playful paws batting at invisible things, pretending to catch fish from the air, still buzzing from the magic that had woven itself into the fabric of their night. He remembered the raven, the falling fish, the hushed words of wisdom, and then, the most wondrous music he had ever heard.

Luna blinked, her own eyes, the color of twilight, slowly focusing. She stretched languidly, feeling the lingering warmth of her siblings pressed close, the comforting scent of their fur a familiar balm. The moon’s song echoed still in the quiet corners of her mind, a melody that resonated deep within her spirit. She had felt it, even before the raven’s prophecy – a gentle pull, a silent understanding that reached across the vast expanse of the night.
