Chapter 9
The Seeker's Guidance
They meet Lyra, a mysterious woman knowledgeable about prophecies. She offers guidance but her words are ambiguous, leaving Elara and Kael uncertain of her true motives.
The wind, a restless spirit, tugged at Elara’s cloak, whipping strands of dark hair across her face. Every gust felt like a whisper of pursuit, a phantom breath on her neck. Beside her, Kael moved with the coiled grace of a predator, his gaze sweeping the desolate landscape ahead. The rocky terrain, bleached bone-white under the pale, indifferent moon, offered little in the way of concealment. The memory of the Shadow Weaver’s agents, their cloaks like pooled night and their eyes like chips of obsidian, still sent shivers down her spine.
“Any sign?” Elara asked, her voice barely a breath against the wind’s howl. She hugged herself, the chill seeping not just from the air, but from the gnawing fear that had become her constant companion.
Kael grunted, his eyes narrowed as he scanned the horizon. “Nothing but dust and echoes. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t there.” His tone was a low rumble, laced with a weariness that went deeper than mere physical exertion. He had the air of a man perpetually bracing for a blow.
