Chapter 8
The Lunar Bloom
During a full moon, Elara's powers surge uncontrollably, revealing a stunning display of lunar energy. This attracts more attention and puts them in greater peril.
The forest floor, usually a tapestry of muted greens and browns, pulsed with an unearthly luminescence. The full moon, a colossal pearl hung in the bruised velvet sky, cast an incandescent glow that seemed to seep into the very roots of the ancient trees. Elara, her breath catching in her throat, felt it – a tidal wave of power surging through her veins, an irresistible current that threatened to shatter her fragile control. It was more than just the moon’s pull; it was a symphony, a crescendo building within her, demanding release.
"Elara, what is happening?" Kael's voice, usually a low rumble of caution, was laced with a rare edge of alarm. He stood a few paces away, his hand instinctively going to the hilt of his sword, his eyes scanning the deepening shadows with a practiced intensity. The air crackled around her, a tangible hum of raw magic that made the hairs on his arms stand on end.
"I… I don't know," Elara stammered, her hands clenching at her sides. She felt a strange duality, a sense of immense power and terrifying vulnerability. The lunar energy was a wild stallion, magnificent and untamed, and she was merely a rider clinging precariously to its back. It was beautiful, a cascade of silver light that seemed to emanate from her very being, but it was also overwhelming, a force that threatened to consume her. Her knuckles were white, her teeth gritted as she fought to contain the effervescent surge.
