Chapter 16
Race Against the Eclipse
The Shadow Weaver plans a ritual during an upcoming eclipse to seize Elara's power. They must reach the ritual site before it's too late, facing relentless pursuit.
The air crackled with an unnatural tension, a tangible static that prickled Elara’s skin. Overhead, the moon, a sliver of pearl in the bruised twilight, seemed to hold its breath. Beside her, Kael’s jaw was set, his gaze fixed on the horizon where the sky bled into a violent swirl of crimson and indigo. “It’s happening faster than I feared,” he muttered, his voice a low growl that vibrated with urgency.
Elara’s heart hammered against her ribs, a frantic drumbeat mirroring the unease that coiled in her gut. The whispers had grown louder in the last few days, not just the wind through the sparse, skeletal trees, but something deeper, a resonant hum that Elara felt in her bones. It was the moon, she knew, calling to her, yet also warning. Lyra’s final, chilling words echoed in her mind: *“The Weaver waits. The eclipse is the key. To steal the light, to bind the power, all under the shroud of the dying sun.”*
“The eclipse,” Elara breathed, the words catching in her throat. “Lyra said they’d use it.”
