A profound silence descended upon the village square, heavier than any blanket of night. The air, moments before alive with the rustle of anticipation, now felt hollow, as if a vital breath had been stolen. The ancient drums, usually the heart of every celebration, stood stoic and mute. No deep rumble, no joyous thrum, not even a hesitant tap. They were like sleeping giants, refusing to awaken.
