It's time for the special drum ceremony, meant to bring good fortune. Elara begins, but the drums remain stubbornly silent. They refuse to resonate, a clear sign that something is deeply wrong with the village's spirit.

The air thrummed with anticipation. The village square, usually a riot of colour and laughter during the Harvest Festival, felt heavy, hushed. Kaelen, his feet shuffling nervously in the dust, watched as his grandmother, Elara, walked towards the centre of the clearing. The ancient drums, their surfaces polished to a deep, lustrous sheen by generations of careful hands, stood waiting. They were the heart of the festival, the voice of their ancestors, the keepers of their fortune.

Elara, her face a map of gentle wisdom etched with a flicker of worry, placed her hands on the largest drum, the one they called the ‘Voice of the Ancestors’. The villagers, their faces turned expectantly towards her, held their breath. Kaelen remembered the stories his grandmother had told him, how the drums would sing when the village was in harmony, when respect flowed like the river. He remembered the vibrant, booming echoes that usually filled the air, a sound that vibrated in your very bones and made your spirit soar.

But today, nothing.
