The chill of the late autumn air bit at Clara’s cheeks as she stepped out of the car, the crunch of gravel beneath her sensible boots a stark contrast to the usual hushed quiet of her observatory. Anya, ever the professional, had navigated them through the winding country roads with an almost unsettling calm, her grip on the steering wheel steady even as the twilight deepened around them. The destination was an old, disused observatory, a place Clara hadn’t visited in years, not since Dr. Reed had spoken of it with a wistful fondness. It was a place steeped in her mentor’s past, a past Clara was now desperately trying to unearth.
