Clara adjusted the collar of her worn tweed jacket, the fabric a familiar comfort against the London chill. The scent of old paper and leather clung to the air, a perfume far more appealing than any floral bouquet. She stood before the imposing, ivy-clad building that housed the Royal Astronomical Society's archives, a place she’d visited only a handful of times during her doctoral studies. Today, however, it felt less like a repository of knowledge and more like a potential vault of secrets. The heavy oak door creaked open at her touch, revealing a dimly lit reception area. A stern-faced woman with her hair pulled back in a severe bun looked up from behind a mahogany desk. "May I help you?" she asked, her voice as dry as the parchment lining the shelves beyond.

"I'm here to see Mr. Croft, please," Clara said, trying to inject a confidence she didn't entirely feel into her tone. "My name is Clara Vance. I was a student of Dr. Evelyn Reed."
