The air in Clara’s study, usually a sanctuary of quiet contemplation, now hummed with a nervous energy. The vellum map, spread across the polished oak of her desk, seemed to pulse with a faint, internal light, its intricate lines and symbols a stark contrast to the sterile efficiency of her astronomical software. Anya, leaning over Clara’s shoulder, her presence a warm weight against Clara’s own, traced a delicate, silvery line with a gloved finger.

“This… this isn't just a map, is it?” Anya murmured, her voice a low rumble that vibrated pleasantly against Clara’s ear. “It’s a puzzle. A very, very old puzzle.”

Clara nodded, her gaze fixed on a cluster of symbols near the edge of the map. “Dr. Reed was fascinated by ancient observatories. Not just the scientific aspects, but the… the mystical. She believed some cultures saw celestial bodies not just as physical objects, but as conduits. Pathways.”
