Chapter 4
Cinnamon and Second Chances
Jess and Leo share coffee and cinnamon rolls at the café, their conversation filled with playful banter and warm humor. They recall a funny childhood memory involving a runaway dog and a pie, which breaks the ice and eases the lingering tension. Leo accidentally knocks over a sugar jar, leading to a lighthearted moment where they both end up laughing. The scene ends with them playfully arguing over who will pay the bill, and they leave the café hand in hand, feeling lighter and more connected.
The café was warm and smelled of cinnamon and fresh coffee. A few tables were occupied, and the soft murmur of conversation mixed with the clink of cups and the hiss of the espresso machine. Jess settled into her seat by the window, the morning light falling across the table. Across from her, Leo was smiling, his eyes crinkling at the corners.
“So,” he said, sliding a menu toward her, “the cinnamon rolls here are legendary. I’m not exaggerating. They’re practically a religious experience.”
Jess laughed, a sound that surprised her. It felt easy, natural. “That’s a bold claim. I’ll hold you to it.”
