The aroma of freshly brewed cardamom tea, a scent Kareem usually found comforting, did little to soothe the knot in his stomach. He swirled the amber liquid in his delicate glass, the warmth seeping into his fingers but not his soul. Across the small, familiar table, Ahmed’s gaze was steady, patient, a silent invitation to unload the weight that had been pressing down on Kareem’s chest for months. They sat in Ahmed’s study, a room lined with books that spoke of quiet contemplation and a life lived with intention, a stark contrast to the tempest that had become Kareem’s home.

“It’s just… I don’t understand, Ahmed,” Kareem finally confessed, his voice barely a whisper, as if the words themselves were too fragile to be spoken aloud. “I try. I truly do. I cook her favorite meals, I buy her the gifts she ‘casually’ mentions, I listen to her every whim, and yet… it’s never enough.” He looked down at his hands, the hands that had once felt so capable, so sure, now trembling slightly. “It’s like trying to fill a well with a sieve.”

Ahmed leaned forward, his brow furrowed with genuine concern. “Kareem, we’ve been friends a long time. I’ve seen you, truly seen you, pour your heart into this marriage. You married Sadia from a place of deep love, and that hasn’t changed, has it?”
