He’d learned to read the subtle shifts in her expression, the way a slight downturn of her lips could signal a brewing dissatisfaction, a quiet storm gathering on her horizon. He loved her, deeply and irrevocably, a love that had blossomed under the watchful eyes of family and the blessings of their faith. Their marriage, solemnized with the recitation of verses and the exchange of vows, was meant to be a sanctuary, a testament to a bond that transcended the ordinary.
He stirred from his thoughts, a gentle smile gracing his lips. "Thinking about what to cook tomorrow?" he ventured, his voice soft, hoping to draw her out of her digital world and into their shared space.
Sadia glanced up, her eyes, usually so bright and engaging, held a flicker of something less than pleased. "I was just looking at pictures from Aisha's party. Her table setting was divine. So elegant." She paused, then added, almost as an afterthought, "Unlike ours last week."
