The late afternoon sun, a gentle painter, daubed streaks of amber and rose across the sky as Kareem found himself once again on Ahmed’s doorstep. The familiar scent of sandalwood and old books greeted him, a comforting balm to his frayed nerves. Ahmed, ever the gracious host, welcomed him in with a warm smile that spoke volumes of understanding, no words needed.
“Kareem,” Ahmed said, his voice a low rumble of genuine concern. “Come in, sit. You look like you’ve wrestled with a dragon and lost.”
