The air in the elegant drawing-room of the Hayes’ London townhouse felt thick with anticipation, a palpable hum beneath the surface of polite smiles and carefully chosen words. Crystal chandeliers cast a warm glow on the polished mahogany table, where Mrs. Dubois, her French elegance a stark contrast to Mrs. Hayes’ more classic English composure, sat beside her husband, Mr. Dubois, whose jovial nature seemed a shade subdued. And if a little honesty now saves us a lot of worry later, then it’s worth it.”

Mr. Dubois, ever the diplomat, cleared his throat, his eyes twinkling as he addressed the room. “Christian, Sachi, it is so good of you both to arrange this little gathering. It’s always a pleasure to be in the company of our dear friends, the Hayes.” He turned to Sachi, a fond smile softening his features. “And to see our darling Sachi looking so radiant, as always.”
