The spotlight hit Lucky’s face, a harsh white glare that made him squint, even behind his oversized, slightly crooked glasses. He adjusted the microphone stand, a nervous habit he’d never quite shaken. The usual hum of chatter in the club began to die down, replaced by a expectant hush. He took a deep breath, the scent of stale beer and cheap perfume filling his lungs.

"Alright, alright, settle down, you beautiful bunch of… people," he began, his voice a little gravelly. He waited for the polite chuckle, the one that said, "He’s trying." "So, we've been talking about truth, right? What is it? Where do you find it? Is it that dusty book your grandma keeps on the mantelpiece, or is it hiding under your couch cushions with the missing TV remote?"

He paused, letting the question hang in the air. A few confused murmurs rippled through the audience. They’d come for jokes, for a bit of escapism, not a philosophical interrogation. Lucky grinned, a flash of white teeth in the dim light. "Yeah, I see those faces. 'Lucky, mate, just tell us about the awkward date you had last week.' But no, no, we're going deep tonight. We're going… faith-deep."
