The air in Master Eldrin's small, cluttered dwelling was thick with the scent of dried herbs and old parchment, a comforting aroma that had begun to feel like home to Elara. Sunlight, dappled and warm, streamed through the single, grimy window, illuminating motes of dust dancing in the quiet space. She sat on a low stool, her gaze fixed on the old man, her heart thrumming with a mixture of apprehension and an insatiable curiosity. The hermit, his face a roadmap of ancient wrinkles, his eyes holding the depth of a starlit night, had promised to tell her everything.
"You carry a legacy, Elara," Eldrin began, his voice a low rumble, like stones shifting in a deep riverbed. He gestured with a gnarled hand towards a shelf laden with leather-bound tomes. You are a descendant of the Lumina, the keepers of the untamed magic, those who sang the world into existence."
Elara blinked, the words like foreign birds taking flight in her mind. Lumina? Sing the world into existence? It sounded like the fantastical tales whispered by traveling merchants, not her own life story. She, Elara, who had spent her days scrubbing floors and mending torn clothes, who had learned to be invisible, to fade into the background. "Lumina?" she echoed, her voice barely a whisper.
