Sunken Redemption
Barnaby claims the Sunken Crown, breaking the curse and freeing the ghosts, but carries the weight of his past forever.
The water churned black and white beneath a sky that had no color, only a bruised, uncertain light. Barnaby stood on the wreckage-strewn shore of the treasure isle, the waves at his back whispering secrets he could no longer ignore. The Sunken Crown was before him, nestled in a cradle of coral and bone, gleaming with a cold, patient light.
He had come this far. He had sailed through fog that tasted of salt and sorrow. He had faced the crew of the dead, their hollow eyes watching him with something close to hunger. And he had seen Elara, her beautiful face twisted with regret and rage, drifting through the ship’s rotten hull like smoke through a broken window. All of it had led to this moment.
Barnaby stepped forward. The sand beneath his bare feet was cold, unnaturally so, as if the island had never felt the sun. His heart beat a rhythm he had not felt in years—steady, determined, alive. He reached out.
