Chapter 7
Vladislaus's Resolve
The King's heart hardens. Vengeance calls to him, a siren song promising an end to his torment. He prepares for a path that may lead to ruin.
The obsidian tapestry of the night sky, usually a balm to Vladislaus’s weary soul, now felt like a shroud, heavy with the weight of unspoken grief. Six centuries had bled into one another, each dawn a pale imitation of the one before, each twilight a deepening of the shadows that clung to his heart. Katja, her presence a perpetual dawn in his twilight world, entered the throne room, her silken robes rustling like autumn leaves. Her eyes, pools of liquid moonlight, held a familiar sorrow, but also a quiet strength that had always tethered him. She saw the hardening in his gaze, the coiled tension in his powerful frame. She knew the path he was contemplating, the precipice he was inching towards.
“My King,” she murmured, her voice a gentle caress against the tempest in his soul. “The night is long. Rest.”
