Now, standing on the threshold of their apartment, a nervous tremor ran through her. The door, a solid barrier between her familiar, ordered existence and the unknown, seemed to pulse with a silent invitation.
Ethan opened it wider, his smile a beacon of easy confidence. "Come in, Lila. Don't hover." His voice was a low rumble, laced with the same warmth that had always drawn her. Sophie stood beside him, a vision in a flowing crimson dress that seemed to capture the very essence of desire. Her eyes, dark and luminous, met Lila’s, and for a fleeting moment, Lila felt a dizzying sense of being seen, truly seen, in a way that was both terrifying and exhilarating.
The apartment was a sanctuary of soft lighting and intriguing art. A low, melodic jazz tune drifted from unseen speakers, weaving a spell of sophisticated sensuality. Rich, dark wood furniture gleamed, accented by plush velvet cushions and throws in jewel tones. The scent of sandalwood and something subtly floral hung in the air, a far cry from the sterile, predictable aroma of her own home.
