Each swing was a violent exhalation, a desperate attempt to carve a path through the suffocating green. Behind him, Anya moved with a fluid grace that belied the oppressive environment, her eyes scanning the undergrowth with an intensity that bordered on preternatural. Bulldog, a mountain of muscle and grit, brought up the rear, his heavy boots crushing fallen leaves with a sound that seemed impossibly loud in the suffocating stillness.
