Chapter 5
Ashes and Awakening
Released from jail, Shyra finds her loved ones home up in flames, as she watches the fire destroy the legacy that was meant for her son in an attempt to erase evidence. Instead of breaking, she finds a quiet resolve. She begins to meticulously retrace her steps, connecting the dots of deception.
In the Middle of her recalling and writing down old memories that could possibly help her when she goes to court, Shyra had another knock on her door.
When she opened it, there stood a well dressed man with a briefcase. He introduced himself as her lawyer. Mr. Franco Black. "May I come in?" Shyra let him in and closed the door behind them. "Just tell me what you can remember." He stated.
She started with the bank fraud. The fraudulent check, the one that had landed her in jail, the one that had shattered her reputation. She remembered the calm with which her "friends" had presented it to her, the subtle pressure, the veiled threats disguised as concern for her financial stability. Their greed had been so palpable, so transparent in hindsight. She recalled the hushed phone calls, the clandestine meetings she had dismissed as work-related stress. Now, they were pieces of a puzzle, fitting together with chilling precision.
