The air in the Alchemist’s study felt thick with the residue of unspoken words, a tapestry woven from regrets and the sharp edges of memory. I sat opposite her, the polished obsidian table between us reflecting the flickering candlelight, each flame a tiny rebellion against the encroaching darkness. The weight of the past, a familiar companion, pressed down on my chest, a constant hum beneath the surface of my hopeful pursuit.
