Chapter 6
The Spark of Magic
The festival's magical incident leaves Elara and Calix bewildered but strangely connected. They begin to question the reality they thought they knew, sensing a shared destiny.
The air thrummed with an energy that was both exhilarating and a little unsettling. The annual school festival was in full swing, a kaleidoscope of vibrant colors, infectious laughter, and the intoxicating scent of street food. Elara, usually so adept at navigating social currents, found herself adrift in the joyous chaos. She’d always enjoyed festivals, but this one felt different, imbued with a heightened sense of anticipation that she couldn’t quite place. Her gaze swept over the bustling quad, where students were engaged in games, admiring handcrafted goods, and queuing for treats.
Suddenly, a surge of people jostled her, pushing her off balance. She stumbled, her arms flailing, and collided with someone with a force that sent a jolt through her. Books and papers scattered across the cobblestone path. "Oh, I'm so sorry!" Elara exclaimed, her Taglish slipping out in her surprise. She bent down to gather her spilled belongings, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment.
Then she looked up, and her breath hitched. Standing before her, looking down with an expression that was somewhere between mild annoyance and detached curiosity, was Calix Ethan Alvarez. His dark hair, usually so perfectly styled, was slightly disheveled from the impact, and his eyes, a deep, intelligent shade of brown, met hers. There was an unnerving stillness about him, as if the frenetic energy of the festival was a distant hum he couldn’t quite hear.
