The air still hummed with the residual energy of their triumph, a quiet echo of the storm they had weathered. Sunlight streamed through the grand windows of the university library, dappling the polished mahogany tables where Elara and Calix sat, their fingers intertwined. It was a comfortable silence, one born not of awkwardness, but of shared understanding, a language spoken without words. The cacophony of the recent battle, the encroaching darkness, the fear that had gripped their hearts – it all felt like a distant dream now, a chapter closed, albeit a significant one.

Elara traced the lines on Calix’s palm, her gaze soft. "Can you believe it's over?" she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper. Her Thai accent, usually so prominent, softened further when she was relaxed, almost blending into the Taglish cadence that had become second nature.

Calix squeezed her hand, his usual nonchalance replaced by a gentle warmth that always made Elara’s heart flutter. "It feels surreal," he admitted, his eyes, the color of a stormy sea, meeting hers. "Like we just woke up from a very vivid nightmare." He chuckled, a low, rumbling sound. "Though, I suppose for us, it was more than just a nightmare."
