Where would I begin to edit this film reel of my existence? Who could I have coaxed into a different dance, or who could have led me by the hand away from the precipice?
Was it the initial surrender of my firstborn, a desperate gambit to reclaim myself, leaving him in my mother's care? Or was it the subsequent tapestry of adoptions, the shifting names, the constant displacement that left my identity a question mark? If my mother, in her own tempestuous journey, had found an anchor, a steady shore, perhaps I would have known the comforting cadence of a permanent home.
