Chapter 7
Rudy's Compass of Wonder
Rudy's latest map seems to lead nowhere, yet it guides her to a forgotten corner of the garden. Here, she finds a peculiar stone, humming with a gentle energy, a sign that her imagination holds real power.
Rudy’s fingers traced the winding lines of her latest map. It wasn't drawn on paper, not this time. Instead, she’d used a forgotten charcoal stick, its smoky scent clinging to her skin, to sketch across the dusty surface of an old wooden chest in the attic. Her towers of blocks, usually an instant manifestation of her inner worlds, hadn’t held her interest today. This map felt different, more substantial, like it held a secret waiting to be unearthed.
Mo had peeked into the attic earlier, her own face shadowed with a familiar unease. “What are you doing, Rudy? Making another one of your… things?” Mo’s voice had held that gentle, questioning tone that always made Rudy’s shoulders slump a fraction.
