The attic breathed. Not with the sigh of aging timbers or the rustle of forgotten things, but with a living, indrawn breath, a whisper of potential held captive. Sunlight, strained and dusty, slanted through the single grimy window, illuminating motes dancing in the air like tiny, unfulfilled wishes. For Mo and Rudy, the attic had always been a place of shadowed mystery, a terrestrial nebula of discarded memories and the lingering scent of camphor and time. Today, however, it felt different. It felt… expectant.

Rudy, ever the explorer, was already halfway up the narrow, creaking stairs, her small frame vibrating with an excitement that bordered on reverence. “Mo, come on! It’s calling us!”

Mo hesitated at the foot of the stairs, her hand resting on the rough-hewn wood. The familiar knot of apprehension tightened in her stomach. The attic was rumored to hold not just heirlooms, but also the echoes of dreams that had never quite taken flight, the hushed regrets of generations. It was a place where the weight of the past felt palpable, and Mo, already wrestling with her own burgeoning insecurities, found such places overwhelming. “Calling us? What do you mean, ‘calling us’?”
