Chapter 14
Mo's First Step Forward
Facing a daunting task, Mo consciously chooses courage over doubt. The backward clock falters, then stills. She takes a significant step towards her ambition, inspired by the unfolding family mystery.
The air in the house, usually thick with the scent of old wood and Ma’s lavender tea, felt charged with something new. It was the quiet hum of possibility, a vibration Mo felt deep in her bones. Each tick was a tiny hammer blow against her resolve. Ten seconds. Twenty. A minute. It was as if the very fabric of time was unraveling around her, mirroring the unraveling of her courage. This was the clock’s cruel magic, a physical manifestation of her inner turmoil. It appeared only when she let doubt take root, when the fear of failure threatened to suffocate her aspirations.
