The air in the hidden grove was thick with the scent of damp earth and ancient magic, a stark contrast to the sterile stillness of Elara’s childhood home. She’d followed the faint, almost imperceptible pull, a whisper in her blood that had grown louder with every step away from the familiar. Now, standing at the edge of a clearing bathed in the ethereal glow of bioluminescent moss, she saw her.
Lilith.
She was smaller than Elara had imagined, a wisp of a girl with eyes like chipped obsidian that darted with a hunter’s instinct. Her hair was the color of a raven’s wing, a stark contrast to Elara’s own sun-kissed auburn, and it cascaded down her back like a silken shroud. She moved with a predator’s grace, each step silent, each movement economical. She was crouched beside a gnarled oak, her fingers tracing patterns in the moss, her brow furrowed in concentration. A faint shimmer, almost invisible, pulsed around her, a barrier of pure, unadulterated power.
