The air in the hidden chamber crackled with an unseen energy, a palpable tension that pressed in on Elara and Lilith. Dust motes danced in the single shaft of moonlight that pierced the gloom, illuminating the faces of their captors. Not captors, exactly. More like… guests. Uninvited, unwelcome guests. The cloaked figures surrounding them were a silent, imposing presence, their faces obscured by deep hoods, their intentions a chilling enigma. But it was the figure seated before them, bathed in the ethereal glow of a magically conjured orb, who held their attention.

He was older, his face a roadmap of sharp angles and shadowed hollows, his eyes like chips of obsidian that seemed to bore through their very souls. A faint, cruel smile played on his lips as he regarded them, a predator observing his prey. This was Silas, the architect of their fear, the unseen hand that had orchestrated so much of their misery.

“Sisters,” Silas’s voice was a low rasp, like dry leaves skittering across stone. “It is a pleasure, finally, to have you both in my presence. Such a rare and precious reunion, wouldn’t you agree?”
