Chapter 5
Dawn's Gentle Glow
At the mountaintop, Twinkle sees the sunrise. The first rays of dawn touch him, giving him a soft, new glow. It's different from his old sparkle, but beautiful and warm, a light born from his journey.
The mountaintop was a quiet place, hushed and still as if holding its breath. Twinkle, perched on the badger’s broad back, felt a strange mix of anticipation and a lingering tremor of fear. He had never been this high, this close to the edge of the world, and the vastness that stretched out before him was both breathtaking and a little overwhelming. Below, the world was a patchwork of dark greens and blues, the shadows of night still clinging to the valleys. Twinkle looked around. The air was crisp and clean, carrying the faint scent of pine needles and damp earth. He could see the faint outlines of distant trees, their branches like skeletal fingers reaching towards the sky. The stars above, his brothers and sisters, still sparkled, a glittering tapestry that made his chest ache with a familiar longing. But as he looked at them, he also felt a new kind of quietness settling within him, a stillness that hadn't been there before.
