Far away we are. My life in two spheres—one spinning in the cold light of the morning train, the other sinking into the dark earth of this sleepless room. I press my palm against the window, and the glass is a membrane between the world I know and the world I am becoming. Outside, the streetlamp flickers, a lonely heartbeat of orange. I count its pulses: one, two, three—a sequence that never resolves, like the irrational numbers I once drew in the margins of my notebook. The city sleeps, but I am awake in the space between two breaths, between the girl who solved equations and the woman who now solves nothing.

I remember the taste of March air—sharp, metallic, like the edge of a compass scraping paper. I used to believe that beauty could be measured, that the curve of a parabola could hold the shape of a longing. But now I know: beauty is not a formula. It is the ache in the throat when the moon is full and you are alone. It is the way the wind carries the scent of wet earth and forgotten promises. I am two spheres: one that remembers the warmth of your hand, the other that knows only the cold of this empty bed.

I hear the distant hum of a car, a low drone that fades into the silence. I think of the sea—how I have never seen it, but I imagine its vastness, its endless repetition of waves. That is what I am: a wave that keeps breaking, keeps returning, never reaching the shore. I am the tide that pulls away from the sand, leaving only the faintest trace of foam.
