The air in the room, thick with the metallic tang of fear and something else, something acrid and unsettling, seemed to press down on Eleanor’s chest. The silence that followed the disembodied voice’s chilling pronouncement was more profound than any sound. It was a vacuum, sucking the life out of the already suffocating space. Mark Addams, his face a mask of sheer, unadulterated terror, was the first to break it, his voice a reedy whisper. “No… no, I can’t.”

His plea hung in the air, a desperate, pathetic thing. Eleanor watched him, her mind already cataloging his every tremor, every bead of sweat tracing a path down his ashen cheek. He was unraveling, a frayed thread in a tapestry of despair.

Then, it happened. A low hum vibrated through the floor, a sound that seemed to resonate in their very bones. A blinding flash of light, accompanied by a sickening crack, and Mark Addams was gone. Not a trace. Just an empty space where he had stood moments before, a space that now seemed to gape with the horror of his absence.
