The air in Lyra’s chamber was thick with the scent of dried herbs and something else… something ancient, like dust disturbed after millennia. Aethelred stood amidst towering shelves laden with scrolls and leather-bound tomes, the light from the single, high window catching motes dancing in the stillness. Lyra, her face a canvas of quiet wisdom etched with a sorrow that seemed too profound for her years, gestured towards a large, intricately carved wooden chest.

"The Fading Archives," she began, her voice a low murmur that seemed to resonate with the very stones of the building. "They hold not just the chronicles of deeds, but the echoes of souls. The names, Aethelred, are more than just labels. They are anchors. And anchors can be pulled from the depths, or they can be drowned."

Aethelred’s hands, calloused from training but still unaccustomed to the weight of destiny, trembled slightly as he approached the chest. Homer stood a silent sentinel by the door, his gaze fixed on Aethelred, an unreadable expression on his weathered face. It was Homer who had brought him here, to this place of forgotten histories, after the unsettling encounter in the shadowed alleyways.
