The air in the Temple of Karnak was thick with the dust of millennia, a suffocating blanket woven from sun-baked stone and forgotten prayers. Elias felt it cling to his skin, a tangible weight that mirrored the burden in his soul. Shadows, long and distorted, danced with the flickering torchlight, playing tricks on his eyes, making the colossal statues of pharaohs and gods seem to shift and writhe. He gripped the worn leather of his satchel, his knuckles white, the Dead Sea Scrolls, now painstakingly deciphered, a heavy presence within. Seraphina stood before him, a silhouette against the faint luminescence filtering through the temple’s vast hypostyle hall. Her presence, usually a beacon of sharp intellect, now pulsed with an unnerving, almost predatory stillness.

"You came, Elias," her voice, a silken caress, echoed in the cavernous space. It held no warmth, only a chilling finality. "I knew you would. The prophecy binds you, just as it binds me."

Elias’s gaze swept over her, searching for the ally he had believed her to be. But the woman before him was a stranger, her eyes, usually alight with intellectual curiosity, now gleamed with an ambition as ancient and unyielding as the stone beneath their feet. He saw it then, the serpentine grace in her posture, the predatory stillness that had unnerved him from their first meeting. Anya’s hushed warnings, cryptic whispers of a hidden agenda, now resonated with a terrifying clarity.
