You can't afford to neglect these opportunities." She placed a crisp, cream-colored card on my cluttered desk, the embossed lettering glinting under the desk lamp. A gala. A charity auction. A luncheon with the esteemed Minister of Culture. My heart sank. These weren't opportunities; they were gilded cages.
